Abstract
This paper examines how informal and formal networks shape performance in the venture capital (VC) industry. Using comprehensive data on VC partnerships, the paper studies three distinct networks: syndication networks, alumni networks, and geographic networks, and their relative importance in deal sourcing, due diligence, and value addition.
